So it’s down to two options, both close to home in case I miss the deck and waking to smell of the basil plant.
1. Under the ‘Gateway’ arch where Victoria Street meets Albert park. Is well shaded by a large Pohutukawa tree, and not any more lit than the deck. The bench is metal mesh though, and might get cold and dig into the back/butt. Is a little set back from an intersection, so while relatively busy, it is not very obvious from the street. I’ve seen rough sleepers here before, though no one seems to be planning on being there tonight.
2. Next to the new Auckland Art Gallery. This is a little less sheltered, but the bench is wood, though rather narrow. This is more shaded from the street, though completely open to Albert park. There is less light, and definitely less noise. Two big pluses are the sound of falling water, and a kinetic sculpture to look at. If the sky were to clear, would also have a great view of the stars through the trees.
Given that there is no rain expected, I think I will try the art gallery. Yay.
