these pictures started with the idea that anyone with any camera can take interesting pictures-you don’t *need the best equipment or brilliant photoshop skills. somewhere along the way came the desire to add words to the pictures. this wasn’t too difficult, as many of the poems I write seem (to me at least) quite visual in their imagery. brought together with reused cardboard frames, ‘mit thla’ was born. ‘mit thla’ is a mizo term literally translated ‘eye image’; and with the same connotations as the english ‘mind’s eye’. seemed rather fitting!
all the ‘mit thla’ pictures are photographed using my trusty (and held together by sellotape) 2 mpx camera phone, and edited in photoshop elements (came free with the wifey’s computer) ONLY to add the polaroid-style frame. i then print them at the local warehouse, and fix them in their roughly cut cardboard frame. the cardboard i currently use was graciously donated by the IT team of the Ports of Auckland. the silver bits are duct tape, that hold the picture to the backboard and act as visual contrast. four nuts-bolts hold the frame together, and there is a piece of string on the back to help in hanging.
one step closer to that etsy shop i’ve been working towards!
