it is so easy to presume that others see the same world we do. in response to bah con’s photo essay on the feet of people working on a construction(?) site, joe commented that arab men recognise their veiled wives by their feet. in a world that is so face-fixated, that somehow seems exotic. how many of us would recognise our own feet in a photograph? so much of what we think we know is dependent on where we stand, on how we look.
these pictures are part of an obsession of mine to strip the context from what we see, to reduce everything to the level of light, line, shape, colour and texture. if we don’t know what we are looking at, maybe we will see differently.
all pictures were taken with my trusty sony ericsson w800i mobile phone, and have only been photoshoped to fit in the polaroid frame.
